I walked a week-long loop in the Whites this past month. The best views
seemed to be from the peaks of Mt. Lafayette and Mt. Bond. The panoramic
view above is from Mt. Lafayette. Click on it to see a larger image.
Below is
the image from the front page. I like this one because I took it myself (you can
see my arm reaching out to hold the camera.) I believe that the mountain to my
left is Bondcliff (it also might be West Bond.) Sorry about the inconsistent color
balances.
The route I took was a loop, most of which was along the Appalachian trail.
I started and finished on the Wilderness Trail (off the Kancamangus,) traveling
along the Franconia and Garfield Ridge Trails on the way in, and the Bondcliff Trail
on the way out. This was an excellent loop that I'd highly recommend, as long the
weather looks good. All the ridge trails are nice for views but less nice
during stormy weather. Click on the map to view a larger and more readable map image.
This is on Map #2 (Franconia-Pemigewasset) from the AMC White Mountains Guide mapset.
And a random shot along the way...
